In the mid-1970's the breeding manager for the Australian Guide Dog Association, Wally Conran, was asked to find a dog that did not shed for a lady in need of a guide dog. Mr. Conran decided to cross a Labrador with a Poodle in an attempt to produce an allergy friendly dog. In the late 1980's, Tegan Park Research Center and Rutland Manner Research Center began developing the breed now known as the Australian Labradoodle by carefully infusing several other breeds into early generations of the Lab/Poodle crosses. This infusion included the Irish Water Spaniel, the American and English Cocker Spaniel and the Wheaten Terrier. The resulting labradoodles have been bred together for multiple generations without going back to the Labrador or Poodle. This is the development of Authentic Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles.
